Bookstore Display Contest

NLHA Display

This fall the Belknap Press of the Harvard University Press will publish A New Literary History of America, edited by Greil Marcus (Lipstick Traces, Mystery Train) and Werner Sollors (Neither Black nor White yet Both).

The NLHA is a massive, chronological register of the speeches, letters, poetry, plays and novels that America has used to figure itself out along the way. With more than two hundred original essays by a stable of the most exciting authors and academics around, the meeting of the minds is extraordinary: Walter Mosley on hard-boiled detective fiction, Bharati Mukherjee on The Scarlet Letter, Sara Vowell on Grant Wood’s American Gothic, Ishmael Reed on Huckleberry Finn, Jonathan Lethem on Thomas Edison, Gish Jen on The Catcher in the Rye...

Lipstick Traces Poster

With all of the great writing that this book discusses, and all of the great writers contributing essays, A New Literary History of America fairly cries for its place in bookstores. The Harvard University Press would like to invite you to give it the showcase that we feel the book deserves.

So we’re throwing a contest. Best display wins. Get creative! Want to do a table display of books by NLHA contributors? We love it. Want to give us a window and highlight books discussed in the NLHA? Fantastic. And if the standard table/window scheme strikes you boring, and you want to get in costume and stage a marathon reading? Wow. (Seriously... wow!)

Prizes will be awarded on the basis of overall creativity and panache, and how appropriately you’ve showcased the NLHA, as determined by our esteemed judges. Grand prize is $500 plus a framed 13-color limited edition signed silkscreen of Chuck Sperry’s cover for the Twentieth Anniversary Edition of Greil Marcus’s Lipstick Traces. Two honorable mentions will also receive framed Lipstick Traces posters.
